JD.com or Jingdong Mall (Chinese商城pinyinJīngdōng Shāngchéng), formerly 360buy, is a Chinese electronic commerce company headquartered in Beijing. It is one of the largest B2C online retailers in China by transaction volume and revenue, a member of the Fortune Global 500, and a major competitor to Alibaba-run Tmall. Its English website Joybuy.com, for worldwide shipping, launched on October 18, 2012.

The company was founded by "Richard" Liu Qiangdong in July 1998, and its B2C platform went online in 2004. It started as an online magneto-optical store, but soon diversified, selling electronics, mobile phones, computers, etc. Jingdong Mall changed the domain name to 360buy.com in June 2007, and to JD.com in 2013. At the same time, JD.com announced its new logo and mascot.

JD.com has invested heavily on its national logistic infrastructure, including the regional distribution center and its own run logistic team, this gives them a lot of competitive edge while competing with other competitors, especially for the products JD.com purchases and carries stocks. However, in order to compete with Taobao.com and build up the market size, JD.com has also set up POP stores which are run by the third parties, JD.com only provide them the platform, the cyber shops are run and maintained by the third parties themselves, same to the shipment.

In terms of the number of skus and stores, JD.com is still lagged behind compared with the online commerce leader Alibaba Group, same for the internal function and management rules, there are still a lot to improve.
